How time flies when you are having fun, or when you are extremely busy!!! I just seem to get busier and busier. Well, the most exciting thing to tell you about from the past two weeks is my camping trip with the school to El Chico National Park near Pachuca, Mexico. Last week we left at noon on Friday and returned at 5:30pm Sunday. The trip was about 3 1/2 hours each way. Well, for years the school has been taking this annual trip, only this year we had to camp at a different spot because of some legal problems the campground was having. Well, we stayed on someone's personal property and we went to a new part of the mountains. The view was just gorgeous. To wake up and see the mountains across the street is incredible! On Friday night we set up our tents, made our dinners and sat around the campfire. Every year the school invites someone to give a message each day. So, we had the message around the campfire. We learned about knowing some specific things that are God's will for everyone. First, God desires that everyone be saved and come into a personal relationship with Him by giving our lives to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We can not do anything else in God's will until we have accepted Christ. Jesus is the only way to have true and meaningful life. After that, it is God's will that we obey authority, live holy lives, and give thanks in everything. Another major desire that God has for us is that we be filled with His Holy Spirit, which will help us to do those other things. Anyways, it was a good reminder for me and made me do a self-check to see if I am walking in God's will. I encourage you to do the same. :)
Well, I have to tell you that last Friday night was the coldest I have been as long as I can remember. Our tent door didn't zip all the way, so cold air was coming in. You may think, "It's Mexico- it can't be that cold." Well, if you woke up Saturday morning inside a tent and it was only 27 degrees Farenheitoutside- you'd be cold, too! Yes, there was frost on the ground and there was actually ice inside of our tent. Our bottles of water froze. All night my toes were frozen and I didn't sleep much. Saturday after breakfast, a group of us went hiking to the top of a small ridge. It was fun. Oh, I forgot to mention that behind us were woods with rattlesnakes and bobcats. Fortunatley, we didn't encounter any during the night or on our hike. After the hike I ate lunch and then went about 10 minutes up the road to some mountains and cliffs. It was a beautiful area. We hiked about 30 minutes into the mountains, past a stream, a natural spring, a little cave and many boulders to a place where our group had set up some climbing routes. I got to climb a 75ft route- which basically means there is a natural rock wall in front of you and you climb up the wall using the little holes in the wall as footholds and handholds. Of course you are attached to ropes so if you fall, you don't actually fall. It is so much fun. It was a pretty easy route for me and I really enjoyed it. As I neared the top of the route (about 70 ft) off the ground I looked around me and saw the glory of God's creation. How cool it is to be standing on the side of a mountain. I will definitely miss that when I come back to Lima!
Saturday night we had dinner and continued the message. Then I was all warm from sitting by the fire and decided to go to bed while I was warm and guess what? I stayed warm and actually slept some that night!
On Sunday morning we packed up, had a short worship service with a message and then went home. It was a great trip.
Well, I am coming home for Christmas 5 weeks from tomorrow and I can't wait to see everyone! I have been invited to spend Thanksgiving with two of my students' families. So, I'm looking forward to being around lots of people for the holiday. Of course, it won't be the same as being at Aunt Sharon's house with the Wiremans, Shobes, MacDonalds, Yarnetskys and my family but I am thankful to have somewhere to go!
Have a great week everyone!
Angelina
